Mental factors in sports can mean the difference between breaking through or dropping out, a championship or a lost season. These mental factors play a vital role in our performance, but sometimes feel elusive. In sports psychology, we see daily in athletes how getting a grip on your thoughts, emotions and behavior can help promote mental resilience and perform better under pressure.
Are you satisfied with where you are now or are you curious about how far you can push your boundaries? Or do you notice a decrease in motivation, focus or self-confidence and want to rediscover your form? Based on the Totale-Mens principle we will work together with proven methods and you will learn how you, as an athlete of SportConsult Nederland, can bring out the best in yourself.
Our Mental and Lifestyle coach is Manuel van de Wal, sports psychologist and owner of M-Sports & Performance. His company was founded from two great passions: psychology and sports. M-Sports & Performance is a psychological practice, focused on talent development and optimal performance. Three important core values that are central to this are personal care, transparency and quality.
SportConsult has a team of top trainers who can offer our Talents extra training during the summer and winter break, particularly aimed at specific skills such as speed of action, coordination and targeted strength training.
As SportConsult we work together with a performance coach who closely monitors your test results and preferences so we can put together the optimal training sessions.
Johnny de Deugd works as a specialized physiotherapist within the Dongemond Soccer Center. He is the practice owner of Physiotherapy Geertruidenberg, one location of which is located at the DSC. In 2014 he graduated as a sports physiotherapist with the title Master of Science at the SOMT in Amersfoort. With this he offers diagnostics and treatment of sports injuries of amateur and professional athletes of the highest international level.
His training in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound gives him the opportunity to add power to his diagnostics by performing ultrasound. In addition, after his master studies, he is very extensively trained in the field of diagnostics and treatment of ankle, knee, hip, and back pain in athletes. He is an active member of the anterior cruciate ligament network in collaboration with Bergman Clinics and the Amphia Hospital and works closely with orthopaedists and sports physicians from the respective organizations. Because of his experience and affinity with soccer, running and tennis he receives many of these athletes in his practice. Because of his shoulder specialization, he has joined the board of Schoudernetwerk West-Brabant.
Within the Dongemond Soccer Center, Johnny de Deugd will be supporting the Sportslab as a consultant in the field of testing and measuring physical function and performance and performing and analyzing among others VO2max measurements. In his practice he works together with a team of specialized therapists, where an extensive range of treatment options and specializations are possible, such as, manual therapy, shockwave therapy and dry needling.
Marlies van Steenoven is our nutrition and weight coach working under the name ‘Lies weight coach’. Since a number of years she helps overweight people in her practice to a healthy diet. Meanwhile she has obtained the specialization child and nutrition and this autumn she expects to complete her specialization for sports and nutrition. With all this knowledge she can guide young athletes to a healthy diet that suits their age and their sporting ambitions. Marlies works according to the principle of ‘healthy and tasty food’ because you will never last long if you don’t like the food. Therefore she looks together with you at what is appropriate for you and what you can maintain throughout your life, because ultimately it’s all about a healthy lifestyle that helps you to bring your sporting achievements to even greater heights.
Podiatrician Wout Buijs focuses on sports-related complaints and treats complaints resulting from improper functioning of the foot. If the foot does not move optimally, the knee, hip and back may also be strained incorrectly. During the examination we look for the cause of a limitation, blockage or compensatory movement of the body.
Soccer has its own load and requires its own investigation. The surface, the footwear and other external factors can also play an important role.
With the help of modern measuring equipment, such as a digital pressure plate and 3D laser scan, the foot position is mapped out very accurately. Since March 2021, a 3D printer has been in use, enabling the production of sports inlays that are even better tailored to the individual. At the same time, this creates only 3% of waste, where normally this is 95%.
Podiatrist Wout Buijs works among others for the youth of NAC Breda. In the daily practice many (professional) footballers are treated and a lot of experience has been gained in amateur and professional soccer.
Feet deserve attention and professional care by our medical pedicurist Cindy Lips.
By having them treated preventively, you can prevent many foot problems such as ingrowing toenails, corns, calluses or cracks.
As an athlete you know that if the feet are not in good condition, the performance can be less good. Hereby I would like to offer you my extensive expertise.
Our Ortho(pedic)manual therapist William van de Luijtgaarden has almost 30 years of experience in treating orthopedic skeletal abnormalities.
Specialized in treating “soccer injuries”. Complaints “below the belt” such as the low back / groin / hips / knees and ankles.
Many soccer players have to deal with slidings, unexpectedly hard where the muscles put pressure on the bones.
In addition to the pain at that moment, bone blockages occur which are often not visible on X-rays, physio and ice cream do not help enough. That is where my diagnostic and treatment expertise lies.
The treatments take place with hammer and dowel technique because blocked bones cannot be loosened with the hands. Usually 1 or 2 treatments are sufficient.
Guiding talents consists not only of careful selection but also of prevention in addition to treatment.
The medical world pays attention to this but doctors like me are not involved enough. Young footballers need to be checked beforehand in terms of the position of their bones, their skeleton. Then, preventively, much more can be achieved with physios and running trainers.
Our collaboration with the orthopedic surgeon Stefan Heijnen of the BergmanClinics is also an important factor in the guidance of our top players. On the one hand for a possible second opinion and on the other hand as the specialist who may perform the necessary surgery.
Where possible Stefan also works together with our physiotherapist Johnny de Deugd.
